The Perfect Match?

KentuckySportsRadio.com is having a contest to find a new blogger for their site. As this is a blog I love to read as much as PJ loves to read this one, I can tell you that all of the bloggers are knowledgeable about UK Sports and also are funny. Seems like a good place for me, right? Well, we'll see. I just mailed in my blog entry and bio. Now, we wait.

Sometimes It's Okay to be Different

in , , by Erin Lynne, May 19, 2010
This past Saturday, I spent the day in Newport (well, not entirely, I accidentally ended up in Ohio several times) with an old friend. We visited the Aquarium and walked around Newport on the Levee for a while. As we were walking to see what was playing at the movie theatre, we passed this bush. I immediately stopped and told Megan, "This is a blog post waiting to happen!" So, now it's happening...

All of the blooms on this particular bush are basically identical. Well, all but one. And aren't you drawn to it? The little white bloom at the bottom, very quietly standing out from the group. Doin' his own thing. Maybe he wanted to be red, but couldn't quite make it happen. Or maybe, just maybe, he didn't want to be red, he wanted to be different. Either way, I like it.

I am a Mac girl (the computers, not the make-up), but even if I wasn't, I think I would love this quote from Steve Jobs:
Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Sometimes I feel like I just don't fit in, but maybe that's because I am supposed to stand out. =)
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful lovely not-too-bad-to-look-at young (ish) princess named Erin. In her 1080 sq ft castle, she had two bedrooms. Sometimes she slept in the guest room, because it was her townhouse castle, so she could sleep wherever she wanted. But the bed in her bedroom was heavenly. So (nearly) every night, she’d climb into bed, lay diagonally (because she wasn’t sharing this bed with anyone, so she could sleep however she wanted) on top of the TempurPedic mattress pad and drift off to dream land. At some point in the night, however, it would start. And by “IT” I don’t mean the scary clown, I mean the squeaking ceiling fan. What was super annoying about this ceiling fan (that had to have been cursed by an evil witch somewhere) was that it could be on all day and never make a noise, but at night, it came alive. Each night our dear princess would be woken to its incessant squeak. And let’s be honest—this princess needs a solid 7 hours of sleep. The squeak was one of those just-loud-enough-to-be-annoying squeaks. And without a pattern that you could at least get used to. So our princess would lie there and try to ignore it for a while, then when she was so annoyed that she thought might rip the fan out of the ceiling and throw it on the floor, she instead just gives up and turns the stupid thing off, and burn up the rest of the night.
The End

P.S. Because I did hear the squeak, that means that I really am a princess. At least that's how it went in the original... So where is my freaking Prince Charming?!?!

H

It's that time again. Another ABC's of Happiness post. This blog post is brought to you by the letter H. So here goes nothin'

Hot dogs-But only on the grill, or at a ballpark. Just not the same any other way!

Hersheys-No elaboration needed!

History Channel-Along with ESPN, one of the main reasons I have cable. Behind Air Force One? Seen it. Life After People?Series recording set. The States? The Presidents? Seen all episodes. Some twice. (Okay, I need to stop before I lose coolness points...)

Home-but not my house in Lexington. My parents house. It'll always be home to me. My parents brought me home from the hospital to this house, and I lived there until I left for UK. I've actually lived in every bedroom of the house because I kept taking over newly freed spaces as my older siblings moved out, then mom & dad converted the once back deck, but then sunroom into my bedroom when I was in college. I think this was a veiled attempt to get me to cone home more often. It didn't work. So they moved out there. Now when I go home, I have their old bedroom.

Haunted Mansion- The only ride at Disney I HAVE to ride more than once. When I was little, we had a record that told the "true story" of the Haunted Mansion. It featured Mike (voiced by Ron Howard) and Karen, his super annoying girlfriend. But it was great. I actually bought a copy burned onto a cd from eBay several years ago. I listen to it every Halloween.

That's all for now...

Hurry baaaack. Hurry baaaaack. Be sure to bring your *death* certificate...
(Other Haunted Mansion fans will get that. The rest of you will think I'm creepy.)

You want to know the best part about being happy with myself these days? Today I had a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Crossian'wich from Burger King for breakfast. And it was fabulous. And I loved every bite. And I don't feel the least bit guilty! ;)
