Happy Anniversary?

in , by Erin Lynne, February 03, 2010

It's hard for me to believe that one year ago today, I fell and shattered my wrist in what my friend Camron refers to as "White Death 09." It seems like a million years ago.

See in the one on the left (normal wrist picture I found through Google Images) the bone goes straight down, and on the one on the right (my actual X-ray), not so much? That's why when the Orthopedic Specialist saw it, she had an audible reaction. =)

A surgery, one plate, seven screws, and countless physical therapy appointments later, I can't remember when I didn't have this huge scar on my arm, or what it feels like to be able to balance something on my right hand (but since I am not a waitress, this isn't really a big deal). And for those of you who haven't seen it, this is what I saw when they took the cast off a couple of weeks after the surgery... (click here to see the picture, it's pretty gross, so I didn't want to subject those of you to it that didn't want to see it!) And to see the before and after side by side, click here.

Not to be political or anything, but I am so thankful that I had great health insurance during this time. Because stuff like this is EXPENSIVE! =) I am also thankful for my mom who came and took care of me for the first couple of weeks, and my friends who cooked me dinner for a month.
